Pre Surgery Anti-Anxiety Medication
Before your pet goes under general anesthesia for surgery we offer anti-anxiety medication. I know it sounds a little strange to offer this when they are going to be put under but there are benefits before, during and after anesthesia. This is a very safe prescription medication that we prepare for your pet in clinic.
Before:
A pet going in for surgery is a lot like a person going in for surgery, there will be a wait before
going under.
We do everything we can to make sure there is a little stress on your pet, but they need to get checked out thoroughly before administering anesthesia. The medication keeps them calm and more relaxed during this time.
During:
Even when your pet is under general anesthesia there are benefits. The anti-anxiety medication helps keep your pets blood pressure and vitals stable which is really important.
After:
While we monitor your pets' vitals while they are coming out of surgery can still be really stressful. The anti-anxiety medication stays in your pet's system for about 12 hours so waking up is easier for them along with the constant checking we do to confirm they are doing well before giving the ok to send them home. Everything we do is for the health of your pet and while pre anesthesia anxiety medication is not required it is highly recommended.
